April Spotlight: Puro Tepache




Puro Tepache, is a San Antonio based nonalcoholic tepache maker. Owned and operated by Kevin Rodriguez and Emmanuel Casasola, Puro Tepache’s mission is to uplift its community and culture through the power of their food and beverage. Puro Tepache’s story is a story that’s familiar to many. Born in Mexico City, Emmanuel would visit family annually with his family. After arriving, they would always stop at the same place for tepache, making memories that lasted a lifetime. Kevin, born and raised in San Antonio, is a second generation Mexican American and grew up in a household where assimilation was key. Hearing the wonderful memories from Emmanuel made Kevin realize the missed opportunity to grow up around his culture.


The two began to develop an authentic recipe along with their knowledge of food microbiology and quality and realized they may have product people would enjoy. They also funneled their passion for the environment and developed a zero-waste process for an authentic Tepache true to its origins but stable and consistent for the Texas market. Currently only available at pop-up events, Puro Tepache is working on their packaging process to soon come out with cans for restaurant and retail distribution. 


Puro Tepache is a true to its roots pure Tepache that is a non alcoholic, lightly fermented, probiotic beverage as healthy as it is flavorful. It’s more than a beverage, it’s a connection with memories and a reconnection to one’s culture.
